Conservatives Deliver Resounding Success in Bexley Elections

The local elections held on 7 May 2026 delivered a significant and hard-fought victory for Conservatives in Bexley, reaffirming the borough’s confidence in strong, responsible leadership and community-focused governance.

In the months leading up to polling day, political commentators and opinion polls repeatedly predicted that Bexley would fall into No Overall Control. National political pressures, intense media scrutiny, and the growing presence of Reform UK created an increasingly challenging electoral landscape. Many expected Bexley to follow the trend seen elsewhere across the country.

However, Bexley Conservatives demonstrated that local elections are ultimately won through hard work, discipline, and trust built within communities over many years.

Throughout the campaign, Conservative candidates and volunteers worked tirelessly across every ward in the borough. From doorstep conversations and community engagement to policy discussions and local issue campaigning, the focus remained firmly on residents and delivering practical solutions for Bexley.

The result was a clear rejection of pessimistic predictions and a powerful endorsement of Conservative values: sound financial management, cleaner and safer neighbourhoods, investment in frontline services, and protecting the character and identity of our communities.

This success was not achieved without challenges. The campaign was fiercely contested, and while many excellent Conservative candidates were elected, there were also dedicated colleagues who narrowly missed out. Their commitment, professionalism, and resilience throughout the campaign deserve enormous recognition and gratitude.

Importantly, the result reflects the strength of teamwork across the borough. Councillors, candidates, activists, volunteers, campaign organisers, and residents all played a vital role in securing this outcome. The unity shown throughout the campaign highlighted the very best of the Conservative movement in Bexley.

At a time when national political debate often dominates headlines, Bexley Conservatives remained focused on what matters most to local people: delivering reliable services, maintaining fiscal responsibility, supporting families and businesses, and ensuring residents continue to feel proud of the borough they call home.

The 2026 election result is not simply a political victory; it is a renewed mandate to continue working hard for every resident across Bexley.

As the new term begins, Conservatives in Bexley remain committed to delivering on their promises, listening to residents, and building an even stronger future for the borough.

The council is now made up of, 29 Conservative, 9 Labour and 7 Reform councillors.

Deputy Chairman Political, Rags Sandhu said "Thank you to every resident who placed their trust in us, and to every volunteer and supporter who helped make this result possible. We will continue the work of Making Bexley Even Better".
