Rt Hon Sir David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, attended a Parliamentary reception on Tuesday (4 September) to help mark Blood Cancer Awareness Month. The event was hosted by the charity Bloodwise.

Sir David was advised about the ‘Make Blood Cancer Visible’ campaign, and he spoke with patients about their experiences.

Blood cancers are the fifth most common type of cancer in the UK, with over 40,000 people diagnosed with a blood cancer or related blood disorder each year in the UK.

Sir David commented: “Despite the fact that blood cancer is the third biggest cancer killer in the UK, claiming more lives than those with breast cancer of prostate cancer, awareness among the general public is low.

“However, Bloodwise are doing fantastic work to raise awareness of blood cancers, and I am pleased to be able to help support their campaign.”

Gemma Peters, CEO of Bloodwise said: ‘We are delighted that David Evennett is supporting our campaign to raise awareness of blood cancer. As 1 in 19 are affected by blood cancer it is vital that blood cancer is central to the Government’s cancer plans going forward.’
