Evennett welcomes rethink on Phlebotomy services

David Evennett MP

Earlier this year, Lewisham and Greenwich Trust considered changing the appointments system at Erith Hospital for blood tests, moving from an appointment based system to a drop-in service. This was in response to a high number of DNAs (did not attend), as on average 78 appointments a week were being missed.

Concerns were raised by local residents, as well as local MP, Rt Hon Sir David Evennett, about the changes being considered. In light of the issues raised, the Trust have decided not to progress with the proposed drop-in system.

Sir David has welcomed the decision, commented: “I am delighted that Lewisham and Greenwich Trust have listened to the concerns raised by myself and other local residents. It is also good news that the number of DNAs have reduced significantly, down from an average of 78 a week to 40. Whilst there is still more work to be done to reduce the DNA rate further, I hope this trend will continue so that alternative measures will not have to be considered again in the future.”
