David Evennett MP

Local Conservatives Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, and Bexley Councillor, Don Massey, attended and spoke at the Public Inquiry into the Boundary Commission's Draft Proposals for Bexley Parliamentary constituencies on Thursday afternoon (20th October).

At the Inquiry, which was held in Bromley town centre, Mr Evennett spoke forcefully for St Michael’s ward to be put back into a Bexley Parliamentary seat on community, historical and geographical grounds.  He commented: “St Michael’s is an integral part of Welling and Bexleyheath, and has no community interest with the Woolwich Parliamentary seat”.  He also strongly argued that Thamesmead Town should not be split across two Parliamentary constituencies.

Mr Evennett urged the Boundary Commission to make changes to ensure that “community links, which are strong in Bexley Borough, are maintained”.

Cllr Don Massey, who spoke on behalf of the local Conservative Associations (Bexleyheath and Crayford, Old Bexley and Sidcup, Erith and Thamesmead), as well as the Conservative group on Bexley Council, presented the Conservative Party alternative to the Draft Proposals in detail.

Rt Hon James Brokenshire, MP for Old Bexley and Sidcup, who also strongly supports the changes presented by local Conservatives, will speak at the public inquiry today (21 October).
