Rt Hon Sir David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, and Cllr Brian Bishop, Mayor of Bexley, attended the start of the 26th annual BCU Life Skills Charity Walk on Saturday (27 April) at St John’s Church in Danson Park.
The annual charity walk is in aid of the BCU Life Skills drop-in centre in Bexleyheath and is the major fundraiser for the charity which gives support and advice to local people who are unemployed or suffering from health or loneliness issues. The centre is located above the Baptist Church in Bexleyheath and offers a wide variety of support services and is open on Thursdays and Fridays.
Both Sir David and the Mayor gave a short speech to the walkers prior to their departure and joined them for a short walk at the start. Among those participating were BCU Chair, Patricia Giles, and former Bexley Mayor, Cllr Peter Reader. The Bishop of Rochester, Rt Rev James Langstaff, also gave support.
All funds raised are donated for the running of the centre and last yester over £9,000 was sponsored.
