The Sports Minister, Rt Hon David Evennett MP, attended the launch of National Golf Month in Parliament today (27 April). It was held on Speaker’s Green and there were a number of activities throughout the day, including putting and hitting into the nets. National Golf Month takes place in May, with the aim of encouraging people of all ages to play golf and displaying the health and social benefits of the game. Mr Evennett spoke in an Adjournment Debate earlier this month on the economic value of golf, where he highlighted the valuable contribution golf makes to the UK. Mr Evennett is pictured with Karl McCartney MP, Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Golf, and Christal Sirdine from Community Golf, a potential future star in the world of golf. After the launch, Mr Evennett commented: “it’s fantastic to see such enthusiasm for golf from people of all ages.” “The new Sports Strategy aims strengthen sport from the grassroots to the elite, and golf can play an important part in that. The value of golf to our country in terms of the economic and health benefits should be both recognised and celebrated.”
