Yesterday (22 June) St Thomas More School Catholic Primary School held an exhibition titled "Our Parish - Our School: 50 Years of St Thomas More", to celebrate its 50th anniversary.
The school opened in 1966, the year England won the World Cup, and the pupils have used a range of resources to gather information about the school's history. The school also managed to secure funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help them access a variety of outside resources, including local archives and interview training for the children.
Among the guests was Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford and Minister for Heritage. Mr Evennett is pictured with the Head Teacher, Mrs Colette Doran-Hannon, before he spoke to her about the project then toured the venue. There were a range of comprehensive displays, detailing information on everything from the different school uniforms over the years, to the serving of school meals, and the fire that burnt down the school hall in 1989.
Following the event, Mr Evennett commented: "this is a wonderful and very informative historical display. The school have done a fantastic job". "I thoroughly enjoyed learning a number of facts about the school and the area, and would encourage anyone in the local community to look at this project as well".
