Rt Hon David Davis MP with David Evennett

Rt Hon David Evennett, MP for Bexleyheath and Crayford, attended the Conservative Party Conference with local activists in Birmingham this week. He listened to many speeches in the main hall, attended a variety of fringe meetings, and met with a number of organisations.

The main highlight was the Prime Minister’s inspirational speech which closed the conference, where she highlighted the turning point in Britain’s history with the EU Referendum result and explained how the Government will respond in a way that meets the challenges ahead.

Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, Rt Hon David Davis MP, also made a powerful speech addressing the issues facing our country as we leave the EU.

Other highlights included:

• Reforms to the education system to ensure every child has the chance to go to a good, local school, and that they are not held back by where they live or how much money their parents have.

• Building more houses so more people have the opportunity to buy a home of their own and spend less of the monthly family budget on accommodation costs.

• The Government will be consulting on the next steps needed to control immigration, looking across work and study routes to refocus these routes on the brightest and best, building a system that works for everyone, whilst ensuring Britain remains open for business.

• Protecting those who cannot work and ending the mandatory retesting of work capability for those with chronic health conditions.

Mr Evennett commented: “it was a great conference addressing the real issues facing Britain. We are working hard to strike the right deal for Britain abroad, deliver a better deal for ordinary working-class people here at home, and build a country that works for everyone, not just the privileged few.”
