Bexleyheath and Crayford Councillors debated the lack of police numbers at last nights Full Council (16th July). They highlighted the failure of Labour Mayor Sadiq Kahn’s failure to recruit extra police when given cash to do so by the last Conservative Government. Cllrs Chris Taylor, Howard Jackson and Rags Sandu all contributed, raising issues such as anti-social behaviour in Barnehurst, extractions to other boroughs from the Town Centre Team in Bexleyheath and shoplifting in Crook Log Ward. Cllr Brian Bishop (Cabinet Member for Community Safety) wrapped up the debate.
Bexley Labour disgraced themselves when they walked out of the chamber and failed to take part in the debate, showing a lack of interest in community safety in Bexley and too embarrassed to defend the poor record of the Labour Mayor of London.
Bexley’s Conservative Council has just signed off over £500,000 in funding to install a new state of the art CCTV system including NOMAD cameras that can be deployed to crime hot spots across the borough. Labour voted against this investment during the Budget Council earlier this year.
