Crook Log Councillors Baroness O’Neill OBE, Chris Taylor and Janice Ward-Wilson sprang into action on Saturday the 14th February when local residents alerted them to an unauthorised occupation of Avenue Road car park by a group of travellers.
Within an hour of receiving the alert, the ward team alerted the Council Gold Team who started immediate legal proceedings to evict as well as contacting local senior police officers. They also updated residents via email and social media to give reassurance that action was being taken.
Citing updated legislation from 2022, the councillors managed to pressure police via Bexley officers to issue section 60 notices to the vehicles and individuals on site which led to them vacating the location by Sunday evening. The team then ensured there was an inspection and clean up operation for Monday morning.
In a statement the three councillors said:
“The quick resolution to this situation shows how on the ball councillors with a strong connection to local residents can have real impact. What could have been a big issue for local residents and businesses was resolved within 24 hrs and those turning up to use the carpark Monday morning to commute to work or use the local shops were non the wiser”
